WALMART + UBER * USA: Competing with Amazon

* Arkansas - Walmart trials delivery partnership with Uber


--- US retail giant Walmart will begin delivery trials in the next two weeks using “transformative” technology platforms including Uber, Lyft and Deliv... The last-mile delivery tests will start with grocery deliveries by Uber in Phoenix and Lyft in Denver. Walmart said this was in addition to a “very quiet” pilot that started in March with Deliv in Miami involving delivery of general merchandise and grocery for business members of its Sam’s Club retail wholesaling subsidiary... Michael Bender, EVP and chief operating officer for Walmart Global eCommerce, indicate "Walmart e-retail customers in the test locations will place their order online, select a delivery window, and Walmart staff (‘personal shoppers’) will select and prepare the order. Staff then request a driver from one of these services to come to the store, pick up the customer’s order, and take it directly to the customer’s location"... This marks the latest move by Walmart to compete with Amazon and other online retailers by offering faster and more cost-effective delivery options...
