TRUCK OFF ROADS * India: With 15 year old
* Bihar - 15-yr-old commercial diesel-run vehicles go off Patna roads
--- Not a single commercial diesel-run vehicle could be caught on Day 1 of the ban imposed by the Bihar government on plying of such vehicles in Patna from June 15... However, the massive vehicle-checking exercise undertaken for the purpose added Rs 1.86 lakh to the state exchequer as the transport and police department personnel fined 106 of the 840 vehicles checked on the day... The drivers of these 106 vehicles, including 102 autos, were fined for not possessing valid documents like driving licence, pollution certificates etc, according to Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor, who was present during the checking... The CM has also directed the government agencies to draw up a plan to control pollution and curb burning of plastic and solid waste in the open... The state transport authority had mooted such a ban as early as October 2013, but it could not be effected then...
