* Berlin - LKW Maut: The taxable network will triple in 2018

The extension of the German kilometer tax is booked: The German government has in fact endorsed on 11 May 2016, the project's Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) to extend to all national roads the LKW Maut from 1 July 2018... This will represent 39,000 additional kilometers and will bring two extra billion euros to state coffers; for the first time, the states which manage 8% of the network will also benefit from a portion of these revenues... So far, the road tax, introduced in 2005, applies to 12 500 km of highways, which were added 2,300 km of national, often four lanes, with an annual revenue of € 4.5 billion euros... Since 1 October 2015, the heavyweights of 7.5 tons are subject to this road fee. In addition, the draft adopted by the Cabinet plans to study, by the end of 2017, the possibility of including in the system of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and coaches. What did not fail to arouse the anger of the German Craft Federation and representatives of the transport of passengers by advancing denounce a punitive measure for their activities... This extension of the LKW Maut was fiercely debated in recent years, within the ruling coalition in Berlin. Two camps have long opposed: the conservative CDU, which rather defend the interests of entrepreneurs, and the Social Democrats SPD that call, them, more investment in roads. The emergency was imposed...
