-- Traffic congestion on US highways added nearly $50 billion in operational costs to the trucking industry in 2014, according to the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI)... Utilizing data sources covering the entire US National Highway System, ATRI’s results revealed calculated delay totalling more than 728 million hours of lost productivity, equating to 264,000 commercial truck drivers sitting idle for a working year... The impact of congestion costs on a per-truck basis averaged $26,625 for those travelling 150,000 miles annually... ATRI has created a database to provide granular cost information to transportation planning officials on the hours of delay and associated cost by major jurisdiction type and road level...
