* Dusseldorf - Daimler Trucks demonstration about Highway Pilot Connect

-- Daimler Trucks demonstrated a three-truck platoon on the Autobahn here March 21 as part of an event to spotlight the growing importance of connectivity... During the demonstration, as cars cut in between the trucks, the trucks automatically altered their distances until the path was clear again. Likewise, as they approached a highway junction, they also automatically adjusted to expand their following distances to ensure safety... The trucks feature “Highway Pilot Connect,” which Daimler officials said is a more advanced version of the Highway Pilot system used in the autonomous-driving Future Truck shown in Germany in 2014, and Freightliner Inspiration truck last year in Nevada... Wolfgang Bernhard, head of Daimler's truck and bus division, laid out an ambitious vision of what connectivity will mean in the near future...

** Oregon / USA - Daimler Trucks breaks ground in Madras

-- Daimler Trucks North America marked the ceremonial start Monday of construction of its $18 million research and development facility on 87 acres adjacent to the city airport... Building the facility will employ about 300 tradespeople during construction, and, once it comes into service, 30 to 40 engineers, drivers and technicians. The Portland-based truck manufacturer, a division of German automaker Daimler AG, chose Madras for its climate, proximity to the truck-maker’s corporate headquarters and friendly people, said Daimler Trucks executives during a gathering of city and Jefferson County officials and local business people... Autonomous driving is one technology Daimler Trucks may refine in Madras. Last year Daimler Trucks demonstrated an autonomous Freightliner, one of its brands, at Hoover Dam...
