** Russian Federation - Halts movement of Ukraine-registered cargo trucks

-- The Russian Transport Ministry declared that its suspension was in response to the obstruction of its trucks transiting through Ukraine... Because Poland and Ukraine together block the land routes from Russia to Western Europe, many Russian truckers have been switching to Belarussian vehicles to continue their trek Westward, the transport ministry said... Ukraine says that until relevant explanations from the Russian side are obtained, these temporarily introduced retaliatory measures will stay in place... The Ukrainian government said its decision was taken because Russian Federation had “violated the World Trade Organisation’s rules and procedures and bilateral intergovernmental agreements... Russian transportation authorities have blocked the movement of Ukraine-registered trucks and detained over 300 cargo vehicles after Ukraine closed its borders to Russia-registered long-haulers... The counter-allegations underscore how badly Moscow’s relations with Kiev have been damaged since Ukraine’s pro-Russian leader was ousted in February 2014, followed by the Kremlin’s annexation of its Crimea peninsula the following month... For its part, Kiev has canceled preferential import duties on a range of Russian goods and imposed an embargo on some products made in Russia...

*** Russia and Ukraine Reach Deal to Temporarily Unblock Trucks

Over 600 Ukraine-registered trucks that are currently on Russian territory will be now be allowed to exit and approximately 600 Russia-registered trucks will be allowed to leave Ukraine before the borders are closed again, according to Ukraine's transport ministry. The grace period will last through Feb. 25...
