* Odisha - Balasore truckers' association chokes the national highway at people's cost
-- All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) claims to have kept 8.7 million trucks and 2 million buses and tempos across the country, out of road as the all India transport strike entered 5th day today, with a long list of demands... While another trucker’s body, “All India Transport Welfare Association” (AITWA) has decided to keep themselves away from the strike, Indian Foundation of Transport Research & Training (IFTRT) said AIMTC’s suggestion to collect fixed annualized toll is not rational. The trucks of these associations, not participating in strike, are plying on the road, keeping the movement of goods, & prices of essential commodities normal... Free movement of trucks on National Highway is on across the country, meeting more than half of the needs of the public and industry... However situation at Balasore is somewhat different. 25 km NH from Soro to Rupsa is reported to be jammed and occupied by the trucks those have been forcibly detained by the local transport association severly impacting movement of essential goods and resulting in shortage & price hike... Balasore situation calls for immediate action by the Administration to save the trade and industry and to allow the innocent truck drivers and helpers detained on the road for last 4 days without having any basic amenities of water and food. Persons responsible for such illegal activities must be booked and action be taken as per law...
