-- General Motors Co. will invest $877 million in its Flint Assembly Plant to build a new body shop, located closer to the Flint Metal Center, the supplier of sheet metal and parts used in vehicle production at the plant... The Detroit automaker Tuesday said the investment completes the $5.4 billion in U.S. facility announcements it has made since late April. GM said the investments over the next three years at U.S. plants will create 650 new jobs, primarily at two other Michigan facilities... * Michigan - Ford turns corner with flagship F-150
-- Ford appears to have finally found the right gear with its F-150 pickup, otherwise known as the moneymaker... After sales of the vehicle slipped every month from February through June, drivers snapped up 66,300 in July, 11,100 more than in June and a 4.8 percent increase over July 2014... The company had struggled to roll out a thoroughly redesigned truck that incorporated far more aluminum than ever before in a bid to get better mileage. It has been the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for decades, and it is the closest thing this fickle industry has to a sure thing...

-- Mercedes-Benz Vans USA, the commercial arm of the German automaker, will sell the Metris, a midsize tall Euro cargo van that will have a starting price of $29,945. Passenger versions will be priced at $33,495. Both prices include shipping, and both vans go on sale in October. The Metris will be the largest of the small vans, with a wheelbase about 13 inches longer than the Ford Transit Connect. Mercedes says the additional length will help the Metris haul 880 more pounds of cargo than the Transit Connect... The Metris is to be powered by a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, 208-hp gasoline engine from the C-class sedan mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission... Pickup: Daimler AG and Nissan Motor Co. will jointly develop a midsize pickup for Mercedes-Benz, but it is not clear whether it will come to U.S. showrooms. Mercedes' U.S. sales arm is studying whether to sell a version of the pickup, possibly in 2018 or 2019, said Steve Cannon, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, at the New York auto show...
