* Victoria - Truck curfew tipped to create chaos and conflict in Melbourne's north-east
-- A night-time truck ban is due to start this month on some of the busiest roads in Melbourne's north-east, just days before the city's wholesale fruit and vegetable market opens in nearby Epping, drawing heavy truck traffic from across the state... The transport industry and fruit and vegetable growers have warned the Andrews government to expect road chaos as the curfew forces thousands of truck drivers onto other residential roads at night and in the early morning... The curfew is a 12-month trial on nine arterial roads that run between the Eastern Freeway and the M80, the so-called "missing link" in Melbourne's ring road... Trucks will be banned on all major north-south roads between Heidelberg Heights and Eltham between 10pm and 6am from late August, in response to a petition protesting against increased truck traffic and noise on Rosanna Road, which was signed by about 600 people... Resolve Rosanna Road spokesman Mario Panaccio said trucks were a noisy and menacing presence on the four-lane road, which strains to carry about 45,000 vehicles a day. On Wednesday, the road was blocked in both directions after a truck smashed into a power pole... But industry has warned the ban will simply create new conflict between trucks and residents elsewhere... The curfew will be phased in from late August, when trucks will be banned on the Greensborough Highway, Rosanna Road, Lower Plenty Road, Waiora Road and Waterdale Road... Bans will extend to other north-south roads in November...
