PHASEOUT OF TRUCKS * Philippines - Trucks for hire: That already have 15 years old or older

* Quezon City - Groups press moratorium on phaseout of 15-year-old trucks

-- Truckers' groups on Monday trooped to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to press for a moratorium on the implementation of the LTFRB's phaseout of trucks for hire that are already 15 years old or older... The Integrated North Harbor Truckers' Association, Bulacan Truckers' Association and the Aduana Business Club conducted a motorcade and held a rally in front of the LTFRB office in Quezon City... The LTFRB imposed the policy supposedly to ensure the roadworthiness of trucks, but the business groups argue that the age of the vehicles should not be the standard to determine their safety and efficiency... INHTA president, Teddy Gervacio, said that at present, there are 300,000 registered trucks for hire in Metro Manila. He said 80 percent of these trucks are already more than 15 years old... He warned of a shortage in trucks plying the business routes if the LTFRB continued to implement the policy... LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez, however, said that the program would proceed as planned. and as implemented since 2012. He also said that the policy on determining roadworthiness of trucks can still be modified since dialogues with stakeholders are still on-going...
