* DC - FMCSA says it expects 22 firms to register ELDs
-- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says it anticipates 20 United States-based and two foreign electronic logging device providers will register ELD devices with the agency... The agency says it anticipates all ELD (electronic logbook data device) providers will submit their registration information electronically... On March 28, 2014, the FMCSA published a supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking (SNPRM) entitled, “Electronic Logging Devices and Hours of Service Supporting Documents” ... Specifically, the SNPRM proposed:
(1) new technical specifications for ELDs that address statutory requirements; and
(2) to require the use of ELDs by those within the motor carrier industry who are currently subject to Records of Duty Status (RODS) preparation requirements...The agency says it expects to publish the final rule by Sept. 30...
