 -- A packed crowd gathered at the Cleveland City Council meeting on April 14, with several truck drivers protesting a Truck Parking Ordinance that was established in November 2014. The council held a Joint Public Hearing with the Zoning Commission regarding a possible amendment to the ordinance, which limits parking and storage of trucks and trailers in residential areas and high density population districts... The head of the city’s Development Services, spoke about the ordinance, citing the consequences of violating the ordinance is fined up to $2,000... During the public hearing, Odell McDuffie of McDuffie Trucking told the council his perspective of the ordinance and its effects on the truck driving community, describing how previously “it was safe to take this truck home,” but now he risks being cited. McDuffie further described the ordinance as a “racial witch hunt" ... “Why is the city just picking on black people?” McDuffie asked... The Zoning Commission recommended denying the change in the amendment, which was passed by the council...
