-- The for-hire trucking industry’s total employment grew by 2,600 payroll jobs in February, according to preliminary data released March 6 by the Department of Labor... The DOL also upwardly revised trucking’s January employment total by 600 jobs... The U.S. economy as a whole, meanwhile, added 295,000 jobs in the month, pushing the country’s unemployment rate to a multi-year low of 5.5 percent... * California - Freight-assistance app Trucker Path raises $1.5M in Series A

-- Mobile app Trucker Path raised $1.5 million in Series A funding on Wednesday to fuel continued growth... CEO Ivan Tsybaev co-founded the Mountain View-based company in 2013 to create a platform to help carriers find truckloads on a smartphone. It connects shippers or brokers with the right carriers... In addition to potential assignments and logistical assistance, the app lets drivers share useful information such as locations of truck stops, rest areas, weigh stations and truck washes. The invite-only app has more than 100,000 active users... As the company expands, Trucker Path is testing a new platform that connects shippers with carriers. The company is looking to acquire a small to mid-size freight brokerage company to help it launch the platform...
