* Manila - One-lane rule for trucks tried on C-5 today
Manila,Phippines -The Philippine Daily Inquirer, by Maricar B. Brizuela -August 30th, 2014: -- To reduce the number of trucks passing traffic-prone C-5 Road, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said it will start a one-lane policy for trucks on Monday, with a test run on Saturday morning... MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino said the measure is aimed at addressing traffic congestion in the entire stretch of C-5 caused by a huge volume of trucks passing through the road... Under the resolution, trucks will only be allowed to use C-5’s innermost lane from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily... Truck drivers are also allowed to use the road during the same hours under the existing truck ban, but only on Sundays and holidays...
* Manila - MMDA considers ‘last mile’ routes for cargo trucks
Manila,Philippines -The Philippine Daily Inquirer, by Maricar B. Brizuela -September 1st, 2014: -- To better address the problem of port congestion in Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in close coordination with the national government, is planning to open temporary “last mile” routes for cargo trucks... In transportation, the term refers to the movement of people and goods from a transport hub to its final destination. As far as the MMDA is concerned, it concerns the movement of cargo trucks from Manila ports to warehouses inside and outside the metropolis... The last mile routes, MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino said, would enable cargo trucks to operate outside truck ban hours... He clarified, however, that before the MMDA could map out these routes, it would need to get a list of warehouses from the PPA and customs bureau...
