* Arizona - Low participation plaguing cross-border trucking program with Mexico

Nuevo Laredo,TAM,MEX -Over Drive, by Jill Dunn -May 12, 2014: -- Five months remain in the pilot cross-border trucking program with Mexico, which has continued to report few safety violations but low participation: Just 13 carriers have authority, compared to the nearly 50 FMCSA said it would need... The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s program, through its third year, has the same number of participating carriers as the end of its second year (13). It finished its first year with nine participants... A total of 17 companies have cleared the FMCSA’s Pre-Authority Screening Audits, conducted on applicants to verify program compliance... The U.S. Department of Transportation Inspector General also has said low participation could result in a data sample inadequate to assess Mexican carriers’ impact on safety...
