Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -September 10, 2013: -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating consumer claims that Ford Motor Co.’s Focus Electric compact car can suddenly stall... The federal agency said it has received 11 complaints that Ford’s lone all-electric vehicle shuts down while driving. The cars — from model years 2012 and 2013 — allegedly stalled while traveling at varying speeds. All reported incidents have happened during the past five months... Ford says it is cooperating with NHTSA’s investigation... None of the consumer complaints resulted in a crash... Many of the drivers who submitted complaints said they received a “Stop Safely Now” message while driving their Focus Electric cars. The cars then — after a short time — automatically shut down, at which point customers had to have them towed...
