* NSW - Road upgrades promised for

Sydney,NSW,Australia -ATA Friday Facts -4 Mat 2013: -- The Australian and NSW governments have jointly announced almost $50 million in funding for NSW country freight links this week. Almost $10 million has been allocated to build new overtaking lanes on the Newell Highway around Moree, Jerilderie and Parkes, while another $40 million will be used to replace the Kapooka Rail Bridge on the Olympic Highway...  Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Anthony Albanese, said the Kapooka Bridge, “Once completed, the project will open 315 kilometres of road for additional Higher Mass Limit use, removing 4,200 heavy vehicle trips each year” ... Meanwhile, the Federal Opposition has promised $500 million for the Adelaide South Road upgrade, following the recommendations of the Darlington Transport Study. The upgrade would include connecting the Darlington Interchange with the Southern Expressway, as well as reconfiguring the South Road...

Canberra,ACT,Australia -The Friday Facts -3 May 2013: -- The Australian Government has released a Regulatory Impact Statement as part of its proposal to mandate Antilock Braking Systems (ABS) for heavy trucks and the use of either ABS or load proportioning braking systems in trailers... Adding an ABS requirement to the Australian Design Rules is an important step in the National Heavy Vehicle Braking Strategy, which aims to bring more modern braking systems into the Australian heavy vehicle fleet...
