"SUPER TRUCK" SAVING FUEL * USA

* Indiana - Cummins, Peterbilt debut 10 MPG ‘SuperTruck’ 

-- Cummins Inc. and Peterbilt Motors Co. said they have developed a demonstration “SuperTruck” capable of averaging 10 miles per gallon in real-world conditions, a 54% increase in fuel economy... The two said Thursday that the truck features a higher-efficiency engine and an aerodynamic tractor-trailer that significantly reduces drag... The higher fuel economy would save about $25,000 annually based on current diesel prices for a longhaul truck traveling 120,000 miles per year, Cummins said... The Department of Energy’s SuperTruck program is a collaborative research and development effort with original equipment manufacturers to create a truck capable of 50% better fuel economy... Other advances in the vehicle include a system that converts exhaust heat into power delivered to the crankshaft as well as the use of lighter-weight material throughout the truck, the manufacturers said...


* North Caroline - Volvo Trucks offering Bose, Sears seats as factory-installed options

Greensboro,NC,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Mar 15, 2013: -- Volvo Trucks has announced that the Bose Ride seat suspension system is now available for order as a factory-installed option on its VNM and VNL highway tractors. Officials say Volvo is the first North American truck manufacturer to offer factory installation of the Bose Ride system. Beginning mid-summer, Volvo will also become the first manufacturer to offer Sears Seating’s new driver’s seat, the Atlas II, as a factory-installed option. Sears Seating’s Sentry models will also be available as an option on Volvo VNM and VNL models... The Bose Ride system is designed to intelligently control the motion of the driver’s seat to cancel harmful vibrations that can lead to pain and injury – during and after the drive. Bose claims the system counteracts up to 90% of the vibrations that drivers feel from the road, which officials say likens the experience to riding in a high-end passenger car...
