* Hubei - Yangtze MSA issues low visibility alert

Wuhan,Hubei,China -Yangtze Business Services -16 January 2013: -- Yangtze Maritime Safety Authorities have issued a low visibility alert following continuous heavy fog over the past few days in Yichang, Jingzhou’s Shashi district, Chenglingji and Wuhan. According to reports from the Yangtze MSA, between 8 and 13 January, heavy fog reduced the visibility to just 500 metres in the middle reaches of the river... Because no rain has been predicted in the coming days, the authorities believe that the heavy fog will continue. Yichang MSA, in charge of the middle reaches, has activated its emergency rescue code and deployed 15 patrol boats and 150 officials in key areas to prevent shipping chaos once the fog lifts...

* Sichuan - Fog disrupts inland airports

Chengdu,Sichuan,China -Yangtze Business Services -9 January 2013: -- Dense fog has caused major disruption at Chengdu Shuangliu airport in Sichuan. On 6 January, 180 flights were delayed and 35 cancelled, and worse was to follow on the next day, when 151 flights were grounded and nearly 10,000 passengers were stranded. The fog reduced visibility at the airport to 50 metres from about 5 am on 7 January, forcing it to close for about six and a half hours... Earlier in the month, heavy fog caused a major backlog of flights at Kunming Changshui airport in Yunnan province, stranding nearly 7,500 travellers. Poor visibility cancelled 440 of the 716 flights scheduled to take off by 10pm on 3 January...
