* FERMA blames poor state of roads on heavy duty trucks

Lagos,Nigeria -Nigerian Tribune, by Tolu Olamiriki -11 February 2013: -- A deputy director of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Mrs Bola Ilemore, has blamed damage of Nigerian roads on the activities of heavy duty trucks... She observed that by overloading trucks, operators of such vehicles impacted negatively on the roads. Ilemore appealed to the Federal Government to expedite action on the rail and water transportation revival programmes to reduce pressure on the roads. She also advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations and avoid loading heavy duty vehicles beyond capacity... Mr Jihad Yaghi, the Senior Project Manager of Zerock Construction Company, which is handling most of the road maintenance works in Lokoja, Okene and Kabba, commended FERMA for giving the company a free hand to perform. He told the team that the Ganaja-NATAKO road in Lokoja, which was affected by flood in 2012, had been repaired and opened to all categories of vehicles...
