* Germany - Daimler launches new medium-duty diesel

Hannover,Germany -Fleet Owner (USA), by Jim Mele --Sep. 21, 2012: -- Continuing development of its global powertrain platforms, Daimler Trucks has introduced an all-new 7.7L diesel with ultra clean emissions and outputs as high as 350 hp. Initially available in the company’s new Antos European regional hauler, the OM 936 meets upcoming Euro 6 emissions standards, which means it should also be suitable for the North American market and it’s nearly identical EPA 2010 emissions requirements... In addition to low emissions and high horsepower, the new inline 6-cyl. features dual overhead cams with electronic controls for variable timing and a common rail injection fuel system capable of producing 2010 bar peak pressures and up to 7 injection events per cycle. Emissions are controlled by cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) on the intake and both diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) after treatment... Offered as a low weight option for regional hauling applications up to 40 tons here in Europe, the new diesel’s initial B10 life is said to be 750,000 KM, but could eventually reach 1 million KM, according to Elmar Boeckenhoff, Daimler vice president of truck product engineering powertrain and formerly chief engineer for Daimler Trucks North America...
* Malaysia - Hino to set up truck and bus manufacturing plant in Malaysia, a joint venture with MBM Resources
Petaling Jaya,Malaysia -Paulton.org, by Danny Tan -1 October 2012: -- Hino Motors, the truck and bus maker from Japan, has entered into a joint-venture agreement with long-time partner, MBM Resources Berhad, to establish its first manufacturing plant in Malaysia... Hino will hold a 58% stake in the JV company, Hino Motors Manufacturing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, while the balance will be owned by MBMR. The plant, which will involve an initial investment of RM140 million, will be located on a 42-acre site in Sendayan TechValley, Negeri Sembilan. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2013 and end early 2014... With an annual production capacity of around 10,000 units, the factory will manufacture the full range of Hino products comprising small, medium and heavy duty trucks, as well as buses for the Malaysian market...

Mumbai,India -The Economic Times, by KETAN THAKKAR -3 Oct, 2012: -- Ashok Leyland plans to enter the US truck market through its European subsidiary Avia and is currently scouting for a local partner there... The company is open for joint venture, contract manufacturing or even a distribution tie-up in the US, top officials said... Avia, which makes light duty trucks in the range of 9-12 tonnes, is now working on 15-tonne and 18-tonne trucks in coordination with Ashok Leyland's R and D centre in South India...
