* Germany - Fuso Canter goes live with factory EcoHybrid drive
(Photo: A Daimler’s EcoHybrid Fuso Canter truck) Stuttgart,Germany -3D-Car-Shows, by Gerald Ferreira -July 2, 2012: -- Designed at Daimler’s Global Hybrid Centre in Japan, the new EcoHybrid Fuso Canter has a 7.5-tonne gross vehicle weight and is ideally suited to short radius city centre deliveries. It has demonstrated fuel savings of up to 23 per cent on trial, as well as correspondingly lower CO2 emissions. The product of many thousands of hours of research and development, the EcoHybrid features a Euro V-compliant 110 kW (150 PS) diesel engine which operates in parallel with a state-of-the-art, slimline, 40 kW electric motor installed between the clutch and Duonic two pedal automated manual transmission. So, efficiency is boosted by a recuperation system which acts as a re-charging generator, transforming braking and deceleration energy back into useable electricity...
* Germany - Daimler signs trucks deals in Japan and Russia
Stuttgart,Germany -Reuters, by Christoph Steitz and David Goodman -Jun 29, 2012: -- German automaker Daimler strengthened its truck business in Japan and Russia, reaching a deal with Nissan Motor and expanding its partnership with Russian truck manufacturer Kamaz... Under the memorandum of understanding with Nissan, Daimler's Japanese truck unit Mitsubishi Fuso will supply its Fuso Canter light truck to Nissan, while Nissan will make the Atlas F24 truck available to Fuso, Daimler said... Daimler's trucks unit expects the global market for trucks to rise by 3.6 percent a year in the medium-term and by 4 percent in the long term, a presentation unveiled on Thursday showed...
* Italy - Fiat's Iveco to close five European plants by year's end

Turin,Italy -AFP/ANSA/France 24 -1 July 2012: -- Italy's Fiat Industrial will close five European plants of its truck subsidiary Iveco before year end to concentrate production at one German site... According to Alfredo Altavilla, plants in France's Chambery, Austria's Graz and Germany's Weisweill, Goerlitz and Ulm will close... In May Iveco's subsidiary Camiva announced that it would close a plant in southeastern France. The 171 employees were expected to be deployed...
* India - Tata suspends Jamshedpur plant for days

Mumbai,India -Reuters, by Henry Foy and Anand Basu -Jun 27, 2012: -- Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, will shut down one of its factories for three days this week, in the latest closure of an India vehicle plant and another sign of slowing growth in Asia's third-largest economy.
India's economic growth slumped to its lowest level in nine years in the first three months of 2012, with the country's manufacturing output -- a key driver of commercial vehicle demand -- shrinking by 0.3 percent.
Tata will suspend production at its Jamshedpur factory, where it makes trucks and truck parts, from June 28 to June 30, a company spokesman said... While top carmaker Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Motor's Indian unit have chosen to temporarily reduce production in recent weeks on falling demand.
India's car sales grew just 2.2 percent in the fiscal year that ended in March, due to high interest rates and rising fuel prices...Labels: truckmakers news worldwide
