* Michigan - Auto sales on track to be best since 2007

Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Jaclyn Trop -July 4, 2012: -- U.S. car and truck sales could surpass 14 million for the first time in five years, with every major automaker reporting a strong midyear performance... Strong June sales announced Tuesday boosted performance for the first six months of the year, prompting analysts to revise their consensus forecast of 13.9 million upward, to 14.2 million... That would be the industry's best U.S. sales year since 2007, when 16.1 million trucks and cars were sold. Last year's American sales totaled 12.8 million, as the industry continued to claw its way back from a devastating downturn... Industry experts attribute the momentum to attractive new vehicles, easier credit, moderating gas prices and modest economic growth...


* DC - Volvo to pay $1.5M to settle U.S. suit. Company apologizes for delay in reporting auto safety defects 
Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -July 4, 2012: -- Volvo Cars North America will pay $1.5 million in U.S. fines to settle claims that the company failed to report safety defects in a timely manner in seven recall campaigns since 2010... The Swedish automaker, owned by Chinese manufacturer Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., apologized for the delays and said it would work to improve its recall procedures and emphasized that there were no injuries or crashes connected to any of the recalls... Geely bought Volvo from Ford Motor Co. in August 2010 for $1.8 billion... The automaker has emphasized its reputation for building safe vehicles, and the fine may be a blow...

* DC - Audi Recalls 13,000 Q5 Crossovers for Faulty Sunroof Glass

Washington,DC,USA -The New York Times, by JONATHAN SCHULTZ -July 2, 2012: -- Volkswagen, the corporate parent of Audi, will recall over 13,000 Q5 crossovers because the front glass panel on its panoramic sunroof may shatter in extremely cold temperatures. In a filing posted to the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday, VW said it was made aware of the problem last winter by dealers who reported that the front glass panel on some Q5s had broken...
