* USA - Detroit 3 turnaround: North America emerges as profit center
Detroit,MICH,USA -Bloomberg/Automotive News (UK) -May 4, 2012: -- Home was where the hemorrhaging happened three years ago when two Detroit automakers headed for bankruptcy and a third suffered record losses... Now North America has become a money machine for the Detroit Three, which earned $4.5 billion there in the first quarter on surging U.S. sales. General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Group LLC exceeded estimates with first quarter net income that totaled $3.2 billion... The most pleasant surprise was healthy North American operating margins of 11.5 percent at Ford, 7 percent at GM and 4.5 percent at Chrysler. Even combined losses of $405 million in Europe for GM and Ford were better than analysts anticipated from a region in an intractable financial crisis... And Chrysler and Ford predict better days ahead as they roll out more new models this year...
* UK - New-car sales rise 3.3% in April
London,EN,UK -Reuters/Automotive News Europe -May 4, 2012: -- British new-car sales rose by an annual 3.3 percent to 142,322 registrations in April, a stronger-than-expected reading that pointed to improved consumer demand, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders industry body said on Friday... Total car sales between January and April rose by 1.4 percent to 705,878 from a year earlier...
* UK - Strong growth for truck market
London,EN,UK -Logistic Manager -4 May 2012: -- Truck registrations in the first four months of 2012 were 27.4 per cent up on last year, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders... April was the 19th consecutive month of growth. The SMMT said the recent upward trend in two-axle rigid volumes remained intact. Artic growth softened, now trending at around 18,000 units annually... DAF continued as market leader for the first four months with a 62.3 per cent rise in registrations. Second and third were Mercedes and Scania... While the truck market grew strongly, the van market fell back...
* Europe - Van market declines
Brussels,Belgium -Fleet Europe, by Tim Harrup -7 May 2012: -- European registrations of light commercial vehicles (up to 3.5 tonnes) dropped by 11.8% in March, bringing the total decrease year to date to 9.6%. Over the first quarter as a whole, around 450,000 new vans have been registered in Europe. The most spectacular decreases have been seen in the southern markets of Spain and Italy, which have plummeted by 22.6% and 36.1% respectively. Of the other ‘big five’ markets, Germany was only down by 1%, with France and the UK close to 6% and 9% down...
* Germany - Car sales rise 3% in April
Frankfurt,Germany -Automotive News Europe, by David Jolley -May 3, 2012: -- Car registrations in Germany rose 3 percent in April as the country continued to buck the downward sales trend in major European markets. Registrations increased to 274,066 last month, compared with 266,251 in April 2011, according to the federal transport authority (KBA). New-car registrations rose 2 percent to 1.05 million in the first four months, thanks partly to German consumers slowly returning to dealership showrooms to buy new models such as BMW's revamped 1 series...
* China - Combined sales dip 1.3% in Jan-Apr
Beijing,China -CAAM (PR) -May 09, 2012: -- The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), publish automotives' productions and sales in the country... Sales of passenger and commercial vehicles in China dropped 1.3% to 6.42 million units in the first four months of this year... In detail: * China automobile production decrease 27.47% in January, increase 28.48% in February and increase again 2.92% in March.
* China automobile sales decrease 26.39% in January, increase 24.51% in February and increase again 1.02% in March.
* Italy - New-car sales fall 17.9% in April
Milan,Italy -Reuters/Automotive News Europe (UK) -May 2, 2012: -- Italian new-car sales fell 17.9 percent in April from the same month a year ago. Monthly sales declined to 129,663 vehicles, improving from March when they fell 26.4 percent, as the effects of an auto hauler's strike diminished. Fiat's market share rose to 31.4 percent in April, up from 26 percent in March 2012. During the first three months of this year, new-car sales fell 20.9 percent from the same quarter a year ago...
* France - Car-sales decline slows in April
Paris,France -Reuters/Automotive News Europe -May 2, 2012: -- The decline in France's new-car sales slowed in April, helped by a gain in PSA/Peugeot-Citroen deliveries as Europe's second-biggest car market showed signs of recovery. French light vehicle registrations dropped 1.3 percent to 200,806 last month, after a 22 percent year-on-year plunge in March, industry association CCFA said on Wednesday. Sales are stabilizing after a 16 percent fall for the first four months and are on track to meet the association's full-year forecast of an 8-10 percent market contraction...
* Brazil - Anfavea: February Auto Sales Fall 8.9% On Year
Sao Paulo,SP,BR -Dow Jones Newswires, by Paulo Winterstein -March 6, 2012: -- Brazil auto sales in February dropped 8.9% from the year-earlier period as a lingering global economic crisis crimps Brazilian consumer confidence, auto maker association Anfavea said Tuesday.
Sales of cars and light commercial vehicles totaled 235,834 units in February, down from 258,803 in the 2011 period and also down 6.7% from January sales, Anfavea said.
Vehicle sales during the first two months of the year totaled 488,493, flat when compared with the same period last year.
Anfavea expects sales to climb close to 5% this year, rebounding from the 2.9% growth seen last year...
* India - CV Sales up 22% in CY11
New Delhi,India -Trucks India/Linkedin -10 April 2012: -- India surpassed every other country for commercial vehicles (CV) sales growth in 2011... Sales of commercial vehicles, mostly trucks, buses and lighter cargo vehicles, increased by 22% year on year in 2011, reported the Economic Times... In comparison, China posted a decline of 10% while the US reported a 13% gain... China continued to lead by volume with sales of almost 4m units in 2011 while India was seventh with 80,000 units...
* India - Tata Motors global sales sees 26 percent increase, Jaguar 42 percent and Land Rover 53 percent
New Delhi Area,India -Trucks India/Linkedin -18 April 2012: -- Tata Motors, makers of the world's cheapest car Tata Nano, along with their subsidiary companies saw a 26% jump in March sales to break the 100,000 vehicle mark for the first time... Global sales increased 23% in the month of March 2012 as compared to March 2011. Tata Motors along with Jaguar Land Rover accounted for sales of 139,655 units in the month. Sales of Tata Motors passenger cars stood at 75,864 units, a rise of 41% while sales of Jaguar Land Rover brands stood at 36,471, a rise of 51% during the month... In the fiscal year that ended March 2012, Tata sold 1,252,173 cars globally resulting in a 16% increase as compared to sales in the previous fiscal.
