* Washington - PACCAR's Smart Moves Should Push Revenue Higher

Bellevue, WA,USA -The Motley Fool, by Neha Chamaria -29 March 2012: -- With the unveiling of the new "next generation" truck models. truck maker PACCAR looks set for bigger things... The best part is that these new trucks are a part of the heavy-duty Class 8 segment, which has been doing extremely well lately. What's more, PACCAR has already bagged an order for 1,000 T680s from Kansas-based TransAm Trucking...   Total U.S. Class 8 truck sales were at 15,418 units in February -- up by a whopping 59% from the comparable period last year -- and marked the 26th consecutive month of year-on-year sales growth. Moreover, sales in the first two months of 2012 have been 56% higher than in the year-ago period. In terms of market share, PACCAR's Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks held the third and fourth positions with 15% and 14%, respectively, after Daimler's 35% and Navistar's 20%...

Over the past several years, we've seen some electric powertrian strategies that seem to show promise in making a work truck much less expensive to operate over the life of the truck's duty cycle. Up to this point, most are all about extending existing range and lowering the overall cost of ownership, two key issues important to fleet managers... Pacific Gas and Electric, a huge utility for Northern and Central California, recently took possession of two electric trucks made by Via Motors, with plans to buy 400 to 500 new trucks per year starting in 2013. These are basically GM half-ton trucks with small engines (usually the V-6) that provide power for the newly installed battery packs that run a compact and powerful Remy electric motor. These particular PG and E trucks will also be equipped with a 15-kilowatt gas-electric generator...

Bellevue, WA,USA -Construction Equipment, by Tom Berg -March 30, 2012: ... The Peterbilt 382 is an aerodynamically styled model that looks a lot like Peterbilt’s medium-duty conventionals. It debuted as a local and regional road tractor about the time that EPA-2010 diesels were adopted. Now it can be built with vocational specifications to handle jobs such as concrete delivery and the hauling of dirt, sand and gravel. Among other things, its aluminum cab can be beefed up with extra structural members to take the twisting and shaking inherent in off-road running... A Pete it should be available with one or two factory-installed pusher axles, not to increase GVW, which Wentworth said is imposed by Cummins due to the engine’s moderate size, but to distribute weight in bridge-formula states...
