* USA - DTNA says its vehicle lineup is now GHG14 certified

Fort Mill,South Carolina,USA  -Penton Media/Fleet Owner -Feb 24, 2012: -- Daimler Trucks North America said yesterday that it is the first truck maker to complete Environmental Protection Agency greenhouse gas 2014 certification for its entire model-year 2013 lineup... The certification indicates that DTNA’s vehicles, led by its flagship Freightliner Cascadia, meets the first stage of the multi-step effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel efficiency on commercial vehicles between 2014 and 2018 one year ahead of the schedule set forth by EPA and the Dept. of Transportation...


* Bulgaria - Plant in EU is a Chinese first. Great Wall Motors opens Bulgaria site, plans more elsewhere

Bahovitsa,Bulgaria -Associated Press/The Detroit News (USA), by Veselin Toshkov -February 23, 2012: -- Great Wall Motors launched operations in Bulgaria this week, becoming the first Chinese automaker to assemble cars in the European Union...  At a ceremony in the village of Bahovista, the major Chinese sports utility vehicle maker said it will start with an initial production of 2,000 cars a year, with the output gradually rising to 50,000 annually by 2014...  The car plant, owned by Great Wall and Bulgaria's Litex Motors, will initially produce cars aimed at the local market...  Since Bulgaria is a member of the European Union, the project provides Great Wall with access to other EU countries at zero tariff levels...


* Sweden - Scania to boost parts distribution capacity

Södertälje,Sweden -Logistic Manager (UK) -22 February 2012: -- Truck maker Scania in investing almost £40m (SEK 400m) to increase the capacity of its parts distribution operation... It is building a 36,500 sq m (360,000 sq ft) warehouse to supplement its existing facility at Opglabbeek in Belgium which serves as the parts distribution hub for the company’s 1,000 or so European dealerships as well as supplying the regional warehouses that supply Scania dealerships in the rest of the world... In addition, it is developing a news parts warehouse in South America. The new facilities will go into service during the first quarter of 2013... Scania has also been investing in strengthening its regional parts distribution in the rest of the world. In late 2011 Scania established a regional warehouse in Singapore...


* China's Geely Turns to Egypt

Beijing,China -The WSJ/Auto Industry News (USA), by Norihico Shirouzu -February 23, 2012: -- Economic growth is slowing in China and Western markets are a tough sell, so Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group Co. is turning to emerging markets, most recently, Egypt... Geely and an Egyptian car-assembly company said Wednesday they plan to start assembling Geely cars this year for sale across North Africa. The Chinese auto maker and Egypt's GB Auto SAE plan to produce up to 30,000 cars annually in a few years and eventually hit 50,000 cars a year, a person close to Geely said...
