* USA - ACT Research: Trailer sector finishes strong in 2011

Columbus,IND,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Jan 27, 2012: -- The commercial trailer sector ended 2011 on solid footing and is well positioned for the third year of growth in the current cyclical recovery, according to ACT Research. Net orders for total trailers grew 38% year-over-year, while build jumped 69%... "Following some mid-year sponginess, the trailer industry ended 2011 on a particularly strong note: Orders in December were a virtual duplication of November's five-year high, backlogs rose to their highest level this cycle, and cancellations were virtually non-existent," said Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst at ACT. "Rising backlogs and low levels of cancellation activity speak to the strength of demand at the start of 2012" ...



* Germany - Kögel: 11960 Units sold, more than 130% in 2011

* The Netherlands - TNT completes testing of TrailerTail

ATDynamics and TNT Express, combined with European aerodynamics company Ephicas, have completed a five-month test on ATDynamics’ TrailerTail aerodynamic device, achieving 6% in fuel savings, ATDynamics said... The test, conducted in the Netherlands which currently does not have a length exemption for aerodynamic devices, showed a fuel savings of 1.65 liters of fuel per 100 km, or approximately 7 gals. per 1,000 mi. Vehicle speed was 50 mph... The product, called EcoTail in Europe, extends out 4 ft. from the rear of the trailer and opens and closes automatically when the driver accesses the rear doors. It works by minimizing aerodynamic drag at highway speed...


* Belgium - Stokota resumes Serrus
