Cambridge,MA,USA -Automotive World (UK) -October 07, 2011: -- A new IDTechEx report, Electric Motors for Electric Vehicles 2012-2022, notes that while 92% of electric traction motors are small units for small vehicles including electric bicycles sold primarily on price, asynchronous motors are gaining ground at the heavy end of the market, now that the cost of control electronics has been brought under control...  For example, in equipment such as forklifts and mobile cranes IDTechEx finds that 89% of manufacturers fit asynchronous motors, otherwise known as AC induction, brushless traction motors with no permanent magnets. Around 63% of military vehicles and 52% of large buses fit asynchronous motors on IDTechEx’s analysis of 212 electric vehicles, past, present and planned...


* Michigan - Eaton reaches hybrid milestone, adds new options

Kalamazoo,MICH,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Oct 12, 2011:  --   Eaton Corp. says that trucks with its hybrid-electric systems have now accumulated more than 200 million miles of service, eliminating the consumption of about eight million gallons of fuel and reducing emissions by 80,000 tonnes...  More than 5,500 vehicles with Eaton's hybrid system are in use today, the company announced...  Eaton also announced a new program that lowers the service replacement costs for its hybrid power systems electronic carriers (PECs). Customers can now slash their PEC replacement costs in half, thanks to the new program, Eaton claims...
