* Sweden - Presentation of the new Scania Euro 6 engines, clean air, but expensive

Sweden -Truck & Business, by Hendrik Despiegelaere -16 Aug 2011: -- Scania is the first manufacturer to let us drive its new Euro 6 engines. These will be mandatory as from December 31, 2012, but Scania already hear the offer in countries that provide for compensation to the high purchase price. Driving is it fundamentally different? No, instead, nothing changes behind the wheel...  The measurements allow a heavy-duty engine to meet the new environmental standards is expensive. The EGR alone is not enough, so the exhaust should be treated with the SCR and filters for soot and other particles. At Scania, all of this' treatment plant is contained in a compact package that does not take up too much space on the chassis. But that is expensive, since Scania request for a Euro version 6, an additional cost of € 12,000...  The exhaust gases of a Euro 6 are already almost cleaner than the air sucked by the engine. Particulate emissions were compared with the Euro 5 reduced by 80%. The actual emission of these particles, which must also count, no longer than 1/6th that of the Euro 5...
