Frankfurt,Germany -Dow Jones Newswires/SmartMoney (USA), by Nico Schmidt -March 16, 2011: -- German truck maker MAN SE and its major shareholder Volkswagen AG plan to cooperate on the making of a new range of light trucks, a spokesman for MAN said Wednesday, confirming a report in domestic newspaper Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung... He added the company is considering a module building system... The report said the talks about trucks between 3.5 metric tons and 7.5 tons are well advanced, but Volkswagen is keeping its options open... Volkswagen holds nearly 30% of MAN and aims to merge MAN with its truck unit Scania AB, to benefit from synergies...


* Germany - Daimler Forecasts Continued Strong Truck Demand for 2011

Stuttgart,Germany -Bloomberg/Transport Topics (USA) -18 March 2011: -- Daimler AG booked more truck orders than anticipated in the first two months of this year, underscoring its forecast of “significant” market growth in 2011...  Its truck sales in January and February rose 28%, while orders from Europe and North America exceeded growth expectations, said Andreas Renschler, head of Daimler’s commercial-vehicles division...  Daimler — the parent company of Daimler Trucks North America, which makes Freightliner and Western Star trucks — forecasts industrywide North American heavy-truck demand will climb 20% to 25% this year, while Europe’s market may grow 15% to 20%...  Daimler’s Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus division in Japan plans to resume operations March 23 after shutting factories and setting up a temporary headquarters in Osaka following last week’s earthquake...  The Kawasaki, Japan-based unit, which makes the Canter light commercial vehicle, accounted for 40% of Daimler’s 355,300 truck sales last year...(Photo from galsh: new Fuso Canter truck)


* Germany - Mercedes-Benz makes Euro-6 engine

Stuttgart,Germany -Road Transport, by Will Shiers -17 March 2011: -- Mercedes-Benz is the first truck maker to launch a Euro-6 engine. The OM471 12.8-litre straight-six, which has found 70,000 buyers in the US and Japan, is the first in a new generation of Daimler global engines...  Mercedes has reached Euro-6 with a combination of SCR, EGR and a particulate filter and says it will not be any thirstier than its predecessors. In terms of weight, it will fall somewhere between the current V6 and V8... 


* Japan - Daimler Extends Production Halt At Japanese Plant Until Tuesday

Stuttgar,Germany -Dow Jones (USA), by Katharina Becker -18 March 2011: -- Daimler AG's Japanese truck unit Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation will extend its production halt until Tuesday...  Almost all German employees have returned home and the Japanese staff and their families have been able to travel to more southern regions since the earthquake and tsunami struck last week, Renschler said...  Daimler has almost 13,000 employees in Japan, the majority of them employed by Fuso. Daimler said the Fuso plant in Kawasaki has only incurred minor damage...  Renschler added the economic impact of the catastrophe in Japan on the company can't yet be assessed...


* Belarus / Russia - MAZ and KAMAZ to be Merged, Putin

This was stated by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during the Belarusian-Russian negotiations on March 15...  Putin also said that Belarus had outstripped Russia in export and import of products... According to the head of the Russian government, the parties have made progress in establishing the Customs Union and Common Economic Space... * Italy - Fiat Bringing Small Van to U.S.

Milano,Italy -Bloomberg News/Transport Topics (USA) -14 March 2011: -- The Turkish unit of Chrysler Group LLC parent company Fiat SpA will begin exporting the Doblo small commercial van to the United States next year...  The announcement was attributed to Fred Diaz, president and CEO of the Ram Truck brand.
