London,UK - Logistic Manager -8 February 2011: -- UPS has added 14 electric vehicles to its fleet which will serve many of the host venues before, during and after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games... Twelve join UPS’s existing fleet of six, which have been operating out of the Camden site since 2009. The remaining two vehicles will be the first to operate out of UPS’s site in Barking... The Modec vehicles use high energy batteries to meet the medium range, high performance requirements of hard working, urban delivery vehicles. Each vehicle can undertake around 60 miles on a six hour charge...
* Belgium - Sharp rise in registrations in January
Brussels,Belgium -Truck & Business, by Claude Yvens -1 Feb 2011: -- January ended with a sharp increase in registrations of trucks over 16 tons: 924 units, an increase of over 36% compared to January 2010. This growth has been uneven, tractors rising 66.5% and 4.6% carrier backwards. registrations of light trucks (3.5 to 16 tonnes) are also down by 12.4%... As for semi-trailers, the trend is also up with 438 al units registered, an increase of 23%...
* UK - Jewson takes first major MAN trucks delivery
Southampton,UK -Transport Engineer, by John Challen -7 Feb 2011: -- Jewson has taken delivery of 37 MAN trucks, as part of its first major contract order from the transport giant... The new trucks are the first to be delivered against the contract, which covers 430 vehicles over the next three years... The MANs join Jewson massive timber and building materials delivery fleet of some 1,200 trucks... Denis Wellfare, transport director for Jewson, explains that the deal is part of the company's fleet replacement programme, and says the mixed MAN fleet will include both 18- and 26-tonne MAN TGM rigids, as well as several MAN TGS and MAN TGX tractor units...
* UK - Colas moves up to Ecodaily 7-tonners for payload and green credentials
Redhill,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -8 Feb 2011: -- Colas has stepped up to Iveco Ecodaily 7-tonner, from its earlier 6.5-tonne Daily LCVs – pointing to the extra payload from the same footprint... The road projects firm has put a fleet of four new Ecodaily tippers to work on a PFI deal with Portsmouth City Council, supporting maintenance and management of the city's highways infrastructure in a contract which lasts until 2029... Each vehicle has been mounted with a Charlton tipper body, with the vehicle's unladen weight of 3,340 kg (including body-mounted toolbox) delivering a payload of 3,660 kg... The vehicles are some of the first new 7 tonne 70C17 chassis cabs to enter operation in the UK, and replace a fleet of 3.5 tonne tippers on the contract. They will be working up to seven days a week and covering around 20,000 miles a year...
* UK - Abel & Cole reports 13% better payload from switch to box bodies
Hull,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -7 Feb 2011: -- Following its change of spec for 3.5 tonne home delivery vehicles, from refrigerated van conversions to refrigerated box bodies, Abel & Cole has ordered 45 more of the new specification vehicles... To date, Paneltex has supplied Abel & Cole with 35 new box bodied vehicles and there are a further 10 in build at the company's factory in Hull. All the vehicle bodies use Hubbard 360 direct drive refrigeration systems, with the Paneltex refrigerated box body, which is compliant with ATP Class C standards and designed to operate at chilled temperatures of +8° C...
