INFRASTRUCTURE * USA - Oklahoma to get new tractor-trailer truck weigh stations

Tulsa,OK,USA -The Tulsa World, by D.R. STEWART -12 Sept 2010: -- In August 2008, APAC-Oklahoma Inc., the low bidder selected by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, began the $4.3 million resurfacing of eight miles of Interstate 244 in Tulsa... The I-244 project addressed a heavily traveled highway that rattled vehicles with a roadway that was beginning to resemble a washboard, state officials and residents said... The job, which took 70 days, involved repaving three eastbound and three westbound lanes between I-244's junction with U.S. 75 just north of downtown Tulsa and I-244's split with Interstate 44 in east Tulsa... But two years after the resurfacing was completed, I-244 is reverting to its previous state, with numerous ruts and potholes forming in the asphalt roadway... It is quite likely, industry and state officials say, that I-244 is traveled by more than a few overweight trucks, which are taking a toll on highways, streets and bridges throughout Oklahoma, industry officials say...

The monitor in the upper left shows the information gathered 1¾ miles earlier on the highway for trucks that passed under a compliance reader arm, which is part of the PrePass automated transponder system. The system allows commercial vehicles equipped with the readers the ability to bypass weigh stations. It's a system similar to a PikePass reader that is tied into a database that notifies and documents for the weigh station personnel all the relevant information such as weight, cargo and destination)
