DEBATE *- UK - Don't take failure rates at 'face value'

London,UK -Road Transport, by Ian Tonkin -21 January 2010: -- Used price analyst CAP has warned commercial vehicle operators not to take the recently released MoT vehicle failure rates, which list both make and model, at "face value"... The Ford Transit Connect was the worst-performing van. It had a failure rate of 30.5% followed closely by its bigger brother, the Transit, with 26.3%... However, Ford says the data is partly due to it having more vans in the vehicle parc than any other manufacturer... The figures cover vehicles registered in 2004 and tested in 2007. However, the table is limited to the most popular models or those submitted for at least 20,000 MOTs. VOSA had previously been reluctant to publish the information saying that it would damage its relationship with vehicle manufacturers. But following a Freedom of Information request by the BBC, VOSA was forced to divulge the data... VOSA has says that it will now publish these figures on an annual basis...
