* USA - Truckload Rates Fell 9.4 Percent, Carrier Says

Chattanooga,TN,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online -Nov 13, 2009:
-- Price reductions matched capacity cuts for truckload carrier Covenant... Average truckload rates fell 9.4 percent in the third quarter despite sharp cuts in capacity compared to last year, carrier Covenant Transport said in a securities filing... The reduction in capacity helped the carrier improve truck productivity, based on freight revenue per total mile, 0.8 percent in the third quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago... But what it called the “lackluster freight environment” for shipping cut deeply into pricing, which reduced overall freight revenue 18.2 percent, a major reason Covenant reported a $13.6 million net loss in the quarter... * USA - FedEx Trade Networks adds to freight forwarding operations

Memphis,TENN,USA -Transport Intelligence (UK) -13 Nov 2009: -- FedEx Trade Networks has announced it has opened seven new freight forwarding offices across Asia and Europe as part of an aggressive global expansion plan. The company has opened a total of 14 new freight forwarding locations in 2009... In Asia, the facilities are located in Xiamen, Tianjin, Dalian and Ningbo, China, as well as a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. These new offices support the company's international freight forwarding operations and provide comprehensive coverage in key Asia-Pacific trade lanes. * Germany - Kuehne + Nagel gets passport

* UK - Stobart wins distribution deal with Unilever

Carlisle,Cumbria,UK -Transport Intelligence -13 Nov 2009: -- UK logistics provider Eddie Stobart has secured a major distribution contract with Unilever UK. The agreement will see Eddie Stobart provide ambient transport solutions covering the majority of Unilever's manufacturing and distribution activities in the UK... Under the new three year contract, which creates £60 million of extra business, Eddie Stobart will undertake customer deliveries from several Unilever UK distribution centres. In addition, Eddie Stobart will also undertake deliveries into those distribution centres from Unilever's UK manufacturing plants... Unilever's link-up with Eddie Stobart is the first time its UK arm has awarded such a significant amount of its ambient transport needs to a single provider...
