* USA - North American truck orders rise in August

Columbus,IND,USA -Truck News (CAN) -24, Sept 2009:
-- North American net orders of Class 8 trucks reached their highest level since November 2008 in August, but remain down 30% year-over-year, according to ACT Research’s latest State of the Industry Report... August Class 8 orders were 15% higher than in July... Medium-duty orders, meanwhile, were up 75% in August compared to the prior year, driven largely by demand for buses. Medium-duty truck orders hit a five-month high in August, but were still down 26% compared to last August, ACT reported... Buses and step-vans provided the strongest orders...


* Germany - Mercedes Benz Actros 'Safety truck' demonstrates 'Active Brake Assist'



Stuttgart ,Germany -Biglorryblog (UK) -24 Sept 2009: -- Video shows Mercedes' 'Active Brake Assist' package working on its Actros Safety truck. Forward facing radar mounted on the front of the truck (part of the 'clever' cruise control) detects slow moving or stationary car up to 110m ahead and warns the driver in a dashboard display . If the driver takes no action the ABA system automatically applies the service brakes to avoid a collision or cut the impact speed to a minimum. In this case the SafetyTruck misses the car by at least 10m. The Actros driver didn't touch the brake pedal at all! (Filmed by Biglorryblog)


* USA - Daimler Recalls More than 8,800 Heavy Duty Trucks


Washington,D.C.,USA -Automotive Fleet -September 23, 2009: -- Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain MY 2005-2010 heavy duty trucks because the left-hand inner tie rod end runs the risk of loosening over time and potentially separating from the steering rack... A separated tie rod assembly can result in loss of vehicle control at higher speeds... Daimler Trucks will notify truck owners of the recall, and repairs will be made free of charge. An estimated 8,882 vehicles will be affected by the recall, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration...
