* USA - Peterbilt marks 70th anniversary

Peterman, after producing trucks to meet the needs of his lumber business in Tacoma, Wash., began to sell his trucks to the public. That venture grew into Peterbilt Motors, which this week celebrated its 70th anniversary... General Manager, Bill Jackson, and his colleagues hosted dealers, top customers and community leaders at the Denton, Texas, headquarters Wednesday and Thursday for the event...In its 70 years, Peterbilt has produced almost 700,000 trucks... Nearly 100 model configurations have marked Peterbilt’s history, said Larry Reding, assistant general manager of sales and marketing... “Peterbilt’s product history is a roadmap of revolutionary engineering solutions that continue to surpass customers’ requirements and set the bar for the industry,” he said... * Ireland - O'Leary chooses Mercedes-Benz

The 25 new units, once integrated into the current fleet of over 100, will consolidate O'Leary Internationals position as one of the largest and most progressive logistics providers in Ireland... * France - Michelin posts euro122 million loss as crisis in automobile market shrinks demand for tires
Paris,France -Associated Press -July 31, 2009: -- French tire maker Michelin on Friday posted a net loss of euro122 million ($172 million) in the first half as car- and truckmakers slashed production and as the company incurred costs for restructuring... The quarterly loss compared to net profit of euro430 million a year earlier. Revenues fell 13.4 percent to euro7.13 billion...
* South Africa - MAN rearing to go into continent, Australia after VW merger
Pretoria,SA -The Business Day, by ARTWELL DLAMINI -29 July 2009: -- MAN Truck & Bus Africa said yesterday it was considering exporting South African-made trucks and buses to Australia and expanding markets from southern Africa into other countries on the continent... Thomas Hemmerich, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus Africa, said the German-owned company sought to develop other markets from SA once the merger with Volkswagen SA’s truck and bus unit had bedded down...
