London,UK -HGV -July 30, 2009: -- Truck drivers are sleeping with one eye open because of the fear that their truck or its contents could be stolen... Lobby group, Truckersworld told BBC Radio 1 that theft from HGVs has risien by more than 60 per cent in the past 12 months, with most crimes taking place while drivers are parked up and asleep... HGV driver Pete Minns from Marsh, Cambridgeshire, told the Newsbeat programme: “There are certain areas of the country where you just wouldn’t want to be overnight. Nottinghamshire,East Midlands,UK -HGV -July 31, 2009: -- HGV drivers have been warned not to park in in Nottinghamshire, following a spate of thefts... Several HGVs have had their curtains slashed along the A1, and just last week on driver has eight pallets stolen from his truck... A van with the slogan, Truckers Beware! This is a Load Theft Hotspot, will be parked in lay-bys along the A1... Police officers are now calling on truck drivers to use designated lorry parks, which have the added benefits of security and often CCTV...
