The market for truck manufacturers is showing signs of improvement
Hartford,CONN,USA -Associated Press/FORBES -8 July 2009: -- An analyst said Wednesday as he initiated coverage of two trucking manufacturing companies. Baird analyst, David Leiker, assigned "Neutral" ratings to truck makers Navistar International Corp. and Paccar Inc.... Once a recovery begins, the sector typically performs better than the broader market for more than three years, he said... Navistar, based in Warrenville, Ill., has growth opportunities that include trucks and parts for the military, expansion of its on-highway trucks, greater engine market share, an alliance with heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. and expansion into emerging markets, Leiker said... Paccar of Bellevue, Wash., is poised to increase its market share in Europe with its Peterbilt and Kenworth brands and has a "very strong" balance sheet with high return on investor capital and shareholder returns, he said...
* Truck orders show modest improvement
Nashville,IND,USA -Today's Trucking (CAN) -8 July 2009: -- Preliminary data showing Class 8 total net orders for all major North American OEMs totaled 8,101 units in June, an increase of 9.7 percent from May 2009 and the first improvement in three months... FTR Associates reports, however, that June 2009 orders were still down a whopping 52.7 percent versus the same month in 2008, which wasn't exactly a booming period either... Eric Starks, President of FTR said "June’s increase is a welcome sign that the heavy-duty market continues to stabilize, although at very low levels. We expect to see additional slow improvement through the end of the year, but meaningful increases in equipment purchases will necessarily await higher freight demand.
