"GREEN" NEWS * USA - Diesel emission projects given funds
Several diesel emission reduction projects have been boosted by a funding hand-out from the US Environmental Protection Agency
USA -The Green Car Website (UK) -21 July 2009: -- It announced awards totalling more than $4.2million in Recovery Act funding for three projects:
* - The Kentucky Association of General Contractors has been rewarded $2million to retrofit and repower diesel powered construction equipment in Kentucky. It will retrofit 87 pieces of diesel powered construction equipment with the funds and promote the adoption of idling practices at 100 construction sites state-wide.
* - New Jersey and New York has been granted $1.4million to clean up a number of long-haul trucks based in the area. The funds go to Cascade Sierra Solutions, which is a not-for-profit trucking organisation that partners with truckers to equip 789 long-haul truck trailers based in the two states. They will be equipped with aerodynamic technologies and gap reducers that should help to lower emissions and fuel consumption.
* - The city of Phoenix will pick up $829,697 aimed at reducing diesel emissions through the retrofitting and replacement of city owned equipment. The funds will go towards 45 pieces of city owned equipment with diesel particulate filters and oxidation catalysts to be used as well as the replacement of an ageing garbage hauler. The vehicles will use ultra-low sulphur diesel with 20 per cent biodiesel.
