* Feds Open Grant Funding for SuperTruck Development

Washington,DC,USA -Truck Trend, by Benson Kong -June 25, 2009: -- The federal government wants to see more efficient Class 8 trucks on America's highways and to help trucks OEMs, engine manufacturers, and other suppliers along their way, the feds are making $240 million in grant funding available to develop future SuperTrucks... The funding will be available through the Recovery Act -- Systems Level Technology Development, Integration, and Demonstration for Efficient Class 8 Trucks (SuperTruck) and Advanced Technology Powertrains for Light-Duty Vehicles (ATP-LD) and administered by the Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory. The department intends to provide matching funds in the range of $45,000 to $95,000 for 11 projects, each of which is expected to last three to five years. According to the Grants.gov Web page, the deadline for applications is September 9, 2009... The main feature differentiating the SuperTruck from today's long-haul trucks will be in overall freight efficiency. SuperTrucks are expected to have a 50-percent improvement in their freight efficiency, which is measured in tons-miles per gallon. At least 20 percent of the improvement will be attributed to the development of an engine capable of achieving 50 percent Brake Thermal Efficiency. Future SuperTrucks are likely to incorporate hybrid drivetrains and engine idle reductions, while also cutting down on aerodynamic drag, vehicle mass, and rolling resistance... * Mack has special financing package for vocational trucks

Lehigh Valley,PA,USA -Bulk Transporter -Jun 25, 2009: -- Mack Trucks Inc. and Mack Financial Services are offering special financing arrangements for a limited time on qualifying MACK Granite and Titan by Mack vocational trucks and tractors through the Granite & Titan Sell-a-Thon program... For new model year 2008 and 2009 MACK Granite and model year 2010 Titan by Mack trucks purchased from dealer inventory, eligible customers can choose up to a $5,000 cash rebate or no interest for the first six months of their finance contract through Mack Financial Services. The program is for US customers only and trucks must be financed by July 31, 2009, to be eligible for the no-interest offer. The financing includes attached truck bodies, and there is no limit to the number of trucks qualifying customers may finance... Customers may also couple this program with the Bonus Depreciation benefits contained in the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to further reduce their cash expenditures. * Hendrickson trailer systems plant lays off more than 70 employees

Canton,MASS,USA -CantonRep, by G. Patrick Kelley -Jun 24, 2009: -- The Hendrickson International Trailer Suspension Systems plant here laid off more than 70 employees as the trucking industry continues to reflect the economy... It’s the second set of layoffs for Hendrickson since late last year... Human Services Director, David Decker, said the indefinite layoffs are “due to continued economic decline in the transportation industry.”... The plant makes suspension systems for the trailers of semi rigs. Decker said the number of trailers being built this year is down 70 percent, and the plant had to reduce its workforce by 26 percent...
