But while the trucking industry is asking Congress to let them add more axles and make highway trucks bigger, a coalition of safety groups and parents want Congress to say no... Big wheelers weigh in at as much as 80,000 pounds and carry about that much in cargo, but the industry wants that weight limit lifted... The truck safety coalition revealed the latest numbers for large truck fatalities Monday. From 1994 to 2007, Virginia was one of the deadliest states with 1,591 deaths. In Maryland there were 335 and in the District, where there are fewer highways, there were 12... The Quinichett's pregnant daughter was killed on the Beltway by a tire coming off an unregulated truck...
