* Rush Reports Lower 4Q Profit
New Braunfels,TX,USA -Transport Topics -11 Feb 2009: -- Truck dealership Rush Enterprises said its fourth-quarter net income fell to $5.1 million, or 14 cents a share, from $12.3 million, or 32 cents, a year ago... Revenue fell 16.5% to $382.7 million, while truck segment revenue fell to $356.5 million from $427.5 million, Rush said late Tuesday... Rush delivered 1,235 new heavy-duty trucks in the quarter, down from 1,511 a year ago. It delivered 903 new medium-duty trucks, down from 1,199, and 603 used trucks, down from 1,088... The company’s parts, service and body shop sales fell to $108.1 million, from $110.6 million... Full-year net income was $28.9 million, 75 cents a share, down 44% from $51.5 million, or $1.33, in 2007. Revenue fell 18.5% to $1.7 billion...
* Pacer Reports Loss for 4Q, Year
Concord,CAL,USA -Transport Topics -11 Feb 2009: -- Transportation and third-party logistics firm Pacer International said late Wednesday it took a fourth-quarter loss of $65.1 million, or $1.87 a share, compared with a profit of $20.6 million, or 59 cents, a year earlier... The loss included the impact of a goodwill impairment charge of $73.3 million after tax, or $2.11 a share; excluding the charge, Pacer said it earned 24 cents a share... Revenue fell 6.8% to $503.7 million for the quarter ended Dec. 26, the company said in a statement... For the full-year also ended Dec. 26, Pacer lost $16.6 million, or 48 cents a share, compared with a profit of $54.3 million, or $1.51, in 2007. Revenue rose 6% to $2.09 billion...
* Warning: sinkholes ahead
St. Louis,MO,USA -Land Line Magazine -February 12, 2009: -- On top of all the other challenges that truckers face these days, including the collapsing economy, there appears to be a new one: collapsing pavement... In St. Louis, MO, a tractor-trailer fell into a sinkhole Wednesday morning, Feb. 11. Actually, the back of the cab and the front of the trailer sank about three or four feet when the pavement gave way in an industrial area... And on Feb. 3, in Park Ridge, IL, the rear wheels of a city fire truck fell into a sinkhole as firefighters were responding to an alarm... In New York City, a tanker truck fell into a 3-foot-deep sinkhole on Feb. 9. And in Philadelphia, a city water truck dropped its back end into a sinkhole two weeks ago... (Photo: sewer history )
