* Australia - More truckies to hit the road soon
Melbourne,Australia -ABC Rural -23 Feb 2009: -- The pool of truck drivers will soon increase, with 4000 people enrolled in road transport training courses... The Australian Trucking Association estimates 10,000 new drivers are needed by 2012... Spokesperson Bill McKinley says that's despite a downturn in the mining industry, "The amount of freight on Australia's roads is forecast to double over the next 20 years," he says. "So even though the mining industry is coming off its boom, there is going to be a continuing high demand for truck drivers, and we know that we simply don't have enough at the moment"...
