"Green Machines" * USA - Kaukauna trucker on a roll with 'green' machines
System saves fuel by allowing motor to be turned off
Kaukana,WIS,USA -The Post-Crescent, by Pete Bach -January 1, 2009: -- Mark Washatka refers to his over-the-road fleet trucks as "Green$ Machines"... By equipping 10 of them with rechargeable storage batteries and a computerized monitor, the small fleet owner has drastically reduced the diesel engine idling time that's the bane of the big rigs. And he's cutting back polluting emissions that go with it... It cost him about $10,000 per truck to install a system from ACC Climate Control, Elkhart, Ind., which he then modified to fit his specific requirements. The payback was swift, taking only two years for the first units installed in March 2006. The payback pace was aided by the skyrocketing diesel fuel prices that topped out at $5.13 per gallon for the firm at a Portland, Ore., fueling stop last year...
