Trucking limits up * USA - For Long Beach vote

Concerned about a potential unintended side effect of the Clean Trucks Program at the Port of Long Beach, city officials are planning a moratorium on new truck facilities

Long Beach,CAL,USA -The Press Telegram, by Paul Eakins -30 Nov 2008: -- ... The City Council will hold a hearing and vote on the one-year moratorium, which would ban any new truck transfer and truck terminal facilities in Long Beach's industrial zones, during its meeting Tuesday... Council members Val Lerch said last week he is concerned that trucking companies may use truck transfer facilities in Long Beach to switch cargo from older trucks arriving to the area to newer trucks that would enter the ports... The city doesn't require conditional use or administrative use permits for truck facilities to operate in industrial zones. Lerch's 9th District in North Long Beach contains the majority of the city's industrial areas outside of the port...
