Comments due by Oct 10
New York,NY,USA -Land Line Magazine, by Clarissa Kell-Holland -October 3, 2008: -- There are only a few more days to submit comments on the proposed regulation by the New York Department of Transportation to force large trucks off state roads and onto the New York Thruway... According to a study conducted by the state’s DOT recently, officials estimate the regulation will cost trucking companies at least $10 million more a year in fuel, toll and operating costs to implement the proposed regulation. The DOT study also estimates that the agency will save approximately $2.6 million in paving maintenance costs in the same area by banning trucks from state roads and forcing them onto the Thruway... Chris Mix, general manager of Sunshine Bulk Commodities Inc, in Clifton Springs, NY, said, the proposed regulation will encompass all trucks with trailers longer than 44 feet, making them avoid state roads and use the Thruway... Mix, who has about 60 trucks that haul in and out of the landfills in upstate New York every day said that, if approved, this regulation could cost his company about $3,000 per day in extra fuel and toll costs... Mix said if the proposed regulation passes, it will have a detrimental impact on the state’s economy and also the environment if trucks have to reroute hundreds of miles each day...
