* Mack selects Bridgestone tires as standard

USA -Mack Trucks -11 Aug 2008: -- Mack Trucks Inc has chosen the Bridgestone R250F as the standard tire for its Granite and TerraPro Cabover model series of heavy-duty vocational trucks... Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC is the standard supplier of tires for all new Mack trucks sold in North America... Mack also recently selected the R280 from Bridgestone as the standard tire for its Pinnacle highway model series...


* Sale of GM medium-duty truck line now in question

Flint,Mich,USA -The Flint Journal, by Ron Fonger -August 11, 2008: -- The UAW is holding back on signing a new local contract at General Motors' Flint Truck Assembly Plant, saying it's no longer certain that a medium-duty commercial truck line here will be sold to Navistar International... About 500 jobs have been expected to be moved to Navistar's Springfield, Ohio, plant as a result of the sale, but UAW Local 598 Shop Chairman Mark Hawkins said something appears to have derailed the sale... Flint Truck is the only GM assembly plant in the country where the medium-duty commercial trucks -used as dump trucks, tow trucks and utility trucks - are built... The line that builds those vehicles has continued to run since the sale to Navistar was announced... GM said in December, when word of the agreement broke, that the memorandum of understanding it reached with Navistar could lead to a sale but that more work needed to be done... Under the deal, Navistar was to purchase certain assets, intellectual property and the rights to manufacture the medium-duty GMC and Chevrolet trucks...
