Freight slightly up giving hope to those who feel trucking will soon begin rebound

USA -Fleet Owner/Automotive Digest -8 Aug 2008: -- Volume should continue to grow at very slow pace... 44% of N American truckload carriers expected business for the rest of the year to be positive... Total domestic volume achieved highest growth rate in 2nd Q 2008 since 2nd Q 2004. Intermodal trailer volume increased 1%, 1st growth in over 3 years... Shippers likely to align w/ large trucking companies to ensure capacity as economy improves.. Most truckers report base rates increase or getting better fuel surcharge recovery now... Concerns about bank failures, inflation and job losses will continue to keep the US economy weak... Economy will stunt truck freight market mainly because of retail sales...
