* Truck Makers Discuss Emissions, Fuel Efficiency

"Anybody who's operating a truck, that's the main expense they're incurring right now," said Eric Staskon, a representative from Navistar International. "So any slight advantage they can give themselves to reduce costs, they're gonna do that."... 2007 engine models attempt to increase fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Navistar International claims to have a model that can cut nearly $6,000 in fuel costs a year... The industry is looking toward the future and trying to top current technology in their 2010 models...
* NationaLease takes equity in Stitzel Leasing
York,PA,USA -Fleet Owner -May 27, 2008: -- NationaLease, through its relationship with ATS Investment Holdings, has taken an equity position in Stitzel Leasing LLC in York, PA, which will now operate under the name of York NationaLease... The investment by ATS enabled Stitzel Leasing, under the direction of trucking industry veteran Dale Stitzel, to acquire the former York NationaLease, the company said. Stitzel Leasing currently operates over 100 vehicles from its York location, and is in the process of opening a Harrisburg, PA location...
* Tank, reefer fleets lead
Houston,TX,USA -Modern Bulk Transporter -May 27, 2008: -- Tank fleets remain an economic bright spot for the trucking industry as a whole, according to Bob Costello, chief economist and vice-president of the American Trucking Associations (ATA)... Tank truckloads increased approximately 7 percent in the first quarter of 2008, compared with the same quarter in 2007, he said during a presentation May 20 during the National Tank Truck Carriers Inc annual conference in New York City. Only refrigerated fleets outpaced tank fleets with an 11 percent increase in freight shipments... Costello said he believes tank fleets will continue to outperform most of trucking for the rest of this year. He also predicted that truckload capacity for all trucking sectors will tighten quickly and significantly in the coming months. Even as loads show signs of increasing, projections suggest that the trucking industry will shrink capacity by about 1.4% this year. That is on top of a 2.6% reduction in capacity in 2007...
