* USA - Navistar Keeps on Truckin'

Navistar was a new tech player back at the turn of the 20th century and is again part of new-tech more than 100 years later... Navistar makes trucks and school buses, where it’s got 60% market share. Navistar is the leader in fuel-efficient engines. It was the first player to make hybrid commercial trucks and school buses... It also has a growing military arm, where it manufactures mine-resistant vehicles. The company said this could become a $2 billion business... But this is more than just a new-tech story -- Navistar is a turnaround story, too...
* USA - Navistar Idles Engine Plant
Indianapolis,IND,USA -TruckingInfo -21 May 2008: -- Navistar International is temporarily shutting down its Indianapolis engine plant because of a slump in demand for Ford trucks, for which International builds Powerstroke diesel engines... According to published reports, the plant will be shut down starting Friday, until July 14. It already had been slated to be closed for the first half of July for a regularly scheduled annual maintenance shutdown... The temporary closure will affect about 500 workers...
* USA - Hino Says it's Planning for Growth
USA -TruckingInfo -21 May 2008: -- Despite recently ending production at a California plant, Hino Motors Sales USA says it is planning for growth in the U.S. market... Monday, the company said that coming off of a record month in sales, it was reconfirming its plan for continued growth in the U.S. commercial truck market... Hino, a Toyota Group Company, recently announced as planned that it would end a contractual manufacturing arrangement with TABC Inc. (Toyota's first North American manufacturing plant) in Long Beach, Calif., and transfer that production to Hino's West Virginia facility. It was widely reported that the move would cut Hino's annual production capacity in North America from 9,500 per year to 4,500...
* Japan - Isuzu Open to Truck Partnerships Beyond Toyota, Hino
Tokyo,Japan -">Bloomberg, by Kiyori Ueno & Tetsuya Komatsu -May 21, 2008: -- Isuzu Motors Ltd., Japan's largest maker of light-duty trucks, is open to tie-ups with vehicle and part makers beyond current partners Toyota Motor Corp. and Hino Motors Ltd. to lower costs... Isuzu, 5.9 percent owned by Toyota who bought a stake in Isuzu in November 2006 to tap the truckmaker's expertise in small-diesel engines... Isuzu is also widening a partnership with Hino, 50 percent owned by Toyota. The two truckmakers merged their bus operations in 2004 and agreed to develop cabs for heavy-duty trucks last August... The company's truck sales in the Middle East and Africa rose 40 percent to 57,000 units in the year that ended in March 31, while those in Central and South America increased 20 percent to 30,000...
